Robertson Quay

Robertson Quay is near where Rivière is located. Being one of the three quays of the Singapore River, Robertson Quay is the largest and the most upstream of the three quays. The other two quays are the Clake Quay and the Boat Quay. It starts roughly midway, or about 1.5 km from the river mouth, and terminates at the river source near the Kim Seng Bridge.

In the past, the upper reaches of the Singapore River were originally swamps and mud flats and. As the population and commerce of Singapore increased, the area was reclaimed in the mid nineteenth century. Chinese and European styles Boatyards and warehouses were constructed in the 1880s.

In the 1990s, the Singapore Government’s Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) rezoned the area for new development of hotel, commercial and residential use. Robertson Quay occupies 51 hectares of the Singapore River planning area.

Today, the neighbourhood of Robertson Quay is heavily frequented for a good reason.
