Orchard Road is a 2.2 km long road in the Central Area of Singapore. Known as Orchard or Orchard Road Shopping Belt the area is the epicentre of retail shopping in Singapore – similar to Hong Kong’s Nathan Road or Japan’s Omotesando. The vibrant boulevard got its name after the fruit orchards, pepper and nutmeg plantations that once lined it in the 1800s.

Ngee Ann City is one most popular landmark on Orchard Road. The complex comprises of office towers as well as retail spaces. The anchor tenant at Ngee Ann City is Japanese Takashimaya department store, spreading over 7 levels occupying from the Basement 2 to Level 4. 3. Orchard Central
Orchard Central is the first and tallest vertical mall in Singapore, consisting of 12 floors above ground and 2 basement levels. Unlike a traditional mall layout, there is no central atrium. It also comes with a “super escalator” which takes visitors on street level straight up to Level 4. The mall is served by a total of 52 escalators including 12 glass elevators and 6 super escalators. The anchor tenants are Japanese favourite brand Don Don Donki and Tokyu Hands.
4. Plaza Singapura
Plaza Singapura first opened in Singapore way back in year 1974. At the time of completion, it was one of the largest shopping malls not only in Singapore but the South East Asia. There are retail outlets over seven floors and two basements in this one-stop lifestyle shopping mall that features supermarket chain Cold Storage, GV cineplex, Spotlight Craft & Hobbies , DIY homeware, fashion boutiques, music and tons of food and beverage outlets.
Tangs is Orchard Road’s first department store set up by local merchant CK Tang in year 1958. Back then Orchard Road was rather quiet and faced a Chinese cemetery. No body else has ever thought of selling anything there but it was proved the perfect location as the expatriate community traveling from their homes to the financial centre work place had to pass the store along the way. And over the time, other stores started to sprout quickly and outwards, making the Orchard Road a thriving shopping destination.
